Barangay

HISTORY

On December 23, 1936, the Municipality of Sindangan was created out of the municipal districts of Sindangan and Panganuran, by virtue of Executive Order No. 77, issued by President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines, Manuel L. Quezon, where the ten municipal districts in the province of Zamboanga was organized into five municipalities. In 1955, four barrios were created, namely Dicoyong, Bacungan, Lagag, and Binuangan. Today, the municipality is composed of 52 barangays, 9 of which are considered urban, specifically barangays Dapaon, Disud, Gampis, Goleo, La Roche San Miguel, Lawis, Piao, Poblacion, and Ramon Magsaysay, and the other 43 barangays are classified as rural, namely Bago, Balok, Bantayan, Bato, Benigno Aquino Jr., Binuangan, Bitoon, Bucana, Calatunan, Caluan, Calubian, Dagohoy, Datagan, Datu Tangkilan, Dicoyong, Doña Josefa, Dumalogdog, Fatima, Imelda, Inuman, Joaquin Macias, La Concepcion, Labakid, Lagag, Lapero, Mandih, Maras, Mawal, Misok, Motibot, Nato, Nipaan, Pangalalan, Ricardo G. Macias, Siari, Sto. Niño, Sto. Rosario, Talinga, Tigbao, Tinaplan, Titik, Upper Inuman, and Upper Nipaan. As of 2019, the top three most densely populated barangays are Mandi, Siari, and Poblacion, respectively.

GEOGRAPHY

The Municipality of Sindangan lies on the northwest part of Zamboanga del Norte (8.2334° N, 123.0114° E). It has a vast land area of 45,100 hectares, and is bounded by the Municipality of Jose Dalman on the north, the Municipality of Leon Postigo on the south, the Municipality of Siayan on the east, and the Municipality of Bayug on the southeast. Sindangan is approximately 86 kilometers from Dipolog City, and 234 kilometers from Zamboanga City. Hence, it is identified as the trading hub of the province since it is a major terminal point for links from Dipolog City to Ipil, and down to Zamboanga City. The municipality is subdivided into 52 barangays. Among the 52 barangays, 22 are situated along the seacoast, bountifully blessed with marine resources which gained Sindangan the title “The Fishing Capital of Zamboanga del Norte”.

Barangay Siari, one of the 52 barangays of Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, is a rural barangay located 12 kilometers away from downtown Sindangan. It is hemmed on the north by Barangay Nipaan, on the south by Barangay Bago, on the east by Barangay Imelda, and on the west by the Sulu Sea. It covers approximately 1,096.89 hectares, or km2 of land divided into seven puroks and having 4,161 inhabitants in 814 households registered at DOH. Ten percent of the area is described as slightly hilly or rolling, 30% of the area as plain land, while 60% of the area is considered hilly, rolling, or mountainous land area. It has three major bodies of water, namely Sulu Sea, Pasanan Creek, and Laputay Creek and two existing bridges - the Pasanan Bridge and Laputay Bridge.
