First Trial of Homemade Supplemental Food Making

In line with the objective of increasing the prevalence of children with normal weight-for-age status, the team adopted the use of supplemental food in achieving this objective. According to the research to which this was patterned, a significant difference in the children’s weight gain is already observable in at least one week of supplemental feeding. The homemade supplemental food purposely contains ingredients that can be sourced locally, such as peanuts, moringa leaves, sugar, milk, and vegetable oil with the additional aim that mothers can replicate the product on their own for sustainability.

After procuring the needed materials and ingredients, the team initiated the first trial of making the supplemental food for the product’s taste test and observed for shelf life. The end product was presented to the barangay officials during the monthly barangay council meeting for possible funding, and also to the mothers for acceptability.
